Phoenix Testlab is a Registered Certification Body (RCB) for Japan

As of July 2006, Phoenix Testlab is a Registered Certification Body (RCB) for Japan. Within the framework of the MRA (Mutual Recognition Agreement) between the EU and Japan, Phoenix Testlab is recognized as a Conformity Assessment Body and is authorized to issue approval certificates for “specified radio systems” for the Japanese market according to the regulations of Japanese radio law. The “specified radio systems” sector includes three categories of radio equipment for which Phoenix Testlab can perform certifications.

1) Radio equipment for which no license is required
For example: digital cordless phones

2) Radio equipment for which a flat-rate license is required
For example: cellular terminals

3) Other radio equipment
For example: equipment for amateur radio stations

The Registered Certification Body is always involved if a company plans to market “specified radio systems” in Japan. The Registered Certification Body assesses whether the device meets the legally specified requirements. If the assessment is positive, a conformance certificate is issued, which is a requirement for marketing the product in Japan.

This new certification service for Japan complements the range of services offered by Phoenix Testlab. The advantage for manufacturers and importers of specified radio systems is that applying for certification through Phoenix Testlab avoids the time-consuming process of dealing with Japanese certification bodies. There is no need for representatives in Japan to apply for certification.

In addition to the Registered Certification Body, Phoenix Testlab offers testing and consulting services for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), environmental simulation, electrical safety, and radio tests on electronic products. Phoenix Testlab is also a notified body, Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB), Foreign Certification Body (FCB), Conformity Assessment Body (CAB), and competent body.
